Backstage with an L & L Solemate – Louisa Cable

Welcome to the blog, Louisa!

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

My name is Louisa, and I’m mother to Lucas Romeo, and Angelo-Valentino (Angel). It’s just us three (and the dog!) in our house, and we’re currently embarking on a wonderful natural parenting journey.

Where did you grow up and where do you live now?

I’m currently living in Worcestershire (UK) and grew up in neighbouring Herefordshire. I’ve always stayed local to the counties and love that the countryside is round every corner.

What can you tell us about your family?

Our family is small, but perfectly formed! We’re all Christians and attend church/Sunday school every week. I have two boys – Lucas is 3 years old and attends a Steiner Kindergarten, Angel is 18 months and spends most of his time attached to me. We also have a family dog, Roxy (Roxanne when she’s naughty), who is the same age as Lucas. Something prompted me to get a puppy at the same time I was due to have a baby…!

Who is your role model and why?

I don’t suppose I have one.. I try not to idealize anyone. Although I did see a mother on a tv programme recently and was in awe… She had a family of about 10, home schooled all of them, ran her own business, had breastfed every one of them and her house was immaculate. Tell me that’s just TV magic?

Do you have a favorite family tradition?

Our traditions are fairly new, and this year will be our second. We follow the Waldorf calendar and celebrate the seasons. We have a nature table set up, and for the different seasons/festivals we collect things to display on it. There are lots of Waldorf celebrations that we will make tradition, but the nature table is definitely mine (and the boys!) favourite.

If you could travel to any time and place where and when would it be?

Probably back to an old hay barn that used to be at our house when I was a small girl. Me and my sister would lie on the bales in thunderstorms to hide from the rain, usually with a chicken under our arms! Or we’d go into the horse stables at night and sit on the horses’ bare backs. They really are fantastic memories.

Where did you first see a pair of Livie  & Luca shoes?

At Natural Mama’s annual big camp. There was a retailer with a stall who was selling these fantastic elephant shoes! The whole weekend was then filled the small children parading around the field in their new elephant shoes. It was great!

What do you like about them?

The designs. The colours. So many things! I love that they aren’t all blue or brown or grey. I love that a shoe actually exists where someone has used their imagination! And obviously the buttery soft feel, and the fact you can crumple them up in your hand – they are that supple.

What are your favorite Livie & Lucas from the Fall 2013 collection and why?

I have to say the red Elephants. I always see them and they are the ones that first caught my attention. I will be getting a pair! I have been waiting for the fall ones to come out as I just love the red. Im also very tempted by the Fox!! What a design. I do love them.

Is there anything you’d like to see from Livie & Luca in the future?

Just to please please keep doing Pio Pio in gender neutral colours. My son adores them. He wouldn’t walk in any pair of shoes before he wore these, and stamped his feet about in pleasure. We love the bright funky colours, but sometimes there isn’t always a gender neutral option and we can’t get them.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and thoughts with us, Louisa! We love the image of lying in a barn with a chicken under your arm in a thunderstorm and also all those children parading around the field in their Elephant L & L’s! Your boys are very sweet and snuggly.
